Fiscal Year Close won't finish

I have tried completing the Fiscal Year close twice and it jumps right to 33%, then to 44% within a few minutes. At this point, it never moves further.

All closing accounts are set up.   Any ideas on what is causing this to get hung up?

I've let the software run all night and have had to force close MIP and do a database restore each morning after each failed attempt.

Thanks

Kerri,

Kerri,

Is this 2016.1.1 or .2?   (or perhaps 2017.1?)

Not that this answers your question, but we've taken to setting up a test database, copied from production, against which we test our year end closing process.

This way our accounting folks (I'm in IT) can take a few swings, documenting the steps, at the close before we close the year against the production instance.  The benefit being if the close doesn't work, you can leisurely restore the testing db again, and not impede other folks who may get into the office before you/whomever does the restores.

Just a thought.   Good luck!

Matt,

Matt,

We are in 2016.2

Our next step will be to work with our IT department and try to close directly on the server.

I'm wondering if my workstation is going idle after a certain period of time, which is causing the process to stop running. I'd think it should still run in the background, but maybe not?

We had a failed close and

We had a failed close and discovered there was a user that was showing as being logged in almost a year earlier.  I don't believe close will work unless everyone is out.

Sonia,

Sonia,

Thanks for the advice. I go into 'Manage Concurrent Users' before each attempt and make sure that there are no other workstations showing as logged in.

One more thing to consider if you’re using EWS for timesheet entries.  I found that I didn’t have exclusive access as long as staff were signed into EWS.  I worked with our IT group to stop and restart the server it to get exclusive access.

Kerri,

Kerri,

I agree with Kurt that we need to close EWS/stop IIS to get exclusive use on our MIP db.

Further, we have a third party app for doing APIs that ties into the sql server db as well, and I need to close that down, as well for doing closes, UDFs and the like.
